Thought for Saturday, 08/05:
"Lawyers, I suppose, were children once." ~ Charles Lamb

Some people believe that any being capable of creating a universe wouldn't even notice us let alone care about us.

This is a completely incoherent view of God.

Any being immense and powerful enough to create a universe certainly possesses the ability to know and care about everything that being created.

So, I don't find it strange that God knows us and loves us. I would find it strange if it wasn’t the case.

But people who have a low opinion of themselves or of humanity find the idea surprising to the point that it feels like narcissism.

Self-love is bad, right ?

Maybe someone in their lives taught them they're unlovable. Maybe enough people in their lives hurt them that they concluded no one is lovable.

But there's no virtue in hating yourself.

There's no virtue in hating humanity.

It's a crippling, shriveled, bleak, and sterile view of humanity and the universe.

I reject it utterly.

If you find it difficult to accept love from the Creator of the universe, then remind yourself that you haven't earned it.

No one is loved by the Creator because they deserve it.

They are loved, because the Creator is love. It's freely-given by the God who can infinitely afford to give it.

Love is the greatest power in the universe, and there's a never-ending supply of it from our Creator.

Surely God must be involved in making sure some are hardened in unbelief, otherwise how is God going to display wrath ?
Also, this way I can stay humble as I don’t have to consider myself a better person for having believed

And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours …. (read on)

I have a new children’s Bible audio up, “The Bible Has Poetry” - https://www.sermonaudio.com/se....rmoninfo.asp?SID=842
This audio talks about poetry in the Bible. It primarily covers the poetic books of the Bible (Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon) but also mentions other places such as the prophets. First, we discuss what Biblical poetry is (the rhyming of ideas or things) and then there is an overview of each of the 5 poetic books. Connects to the Gospel. For children ages 4-10, though adults have also enjoyed and even learned from my audios as well.
