Romans Commentary:

In Romans 1:3-4, it seems Paul is quoting an early catechism of the church. The catechism is likely something the early church memorized, could have been used in a hymn, and may have been given to Baptismal candidates. Why is this significant? In my commentary, I believe there are many, but we know the early church clearly taught the full deity and humanity of Jesus Christ. Jesus was the Son of God, and he was from the line of David. Theologians call this the hypostatic union, but it was not a doctrine any debated. Being an early catechism, Paul focused on this teaching immediately in beginning his letter
