People have sacrificed their children in furnaces thinking that’s what is needed to ‘pacify’ God; so it’s no surprise if someone decides to just ‘accept’ in a resigned manner, mistakenly thinking that to be humility;
… as a teenager chewing gum would say - ‘whatever’ !
