Thought for Friday, 04/01: "Faith is a cop-out. If the only way you can accept an assertion is by faith, then you are conceding that it can’t be taken on its own merits." ~ Dan Barker

"Where there is evidence, no one speaks of 'faith.' We do not speak of faith that two and two are four or that the earth is round. We only speak of faith when we wish to substitute emotion for evidence." ~ Bertrand Russell
"A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything." ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
"The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason." ~ Benjamin Franklin
"I respect faith, but doubt is what gets you an education." ~ Wilson Mizner

"To really know is science; to merely believe you know is ignorance." ~ Hippocrates
"In order to hold your faith intact,
Be sure it's kept unsullied by fact." ~ Donald Westlake
"Our belief is not a belief. Our principles are not a faith. We do not rely solely upon science and reason, because these are necessary rather than sufficient factors, but we distrust anything that contradicts science or outrages reason...
It's called faith because it's not knowledge." ~ Christopher Hitchens

Thank you for providing 9 more examples of people who don't know what they are talking about and are responding to that which they do not understand.
If you knew what was meant by 'faith,' especially as Christians understand it, which is the likely context, then you would know that all these people also have faith.
You would understand that everyone has faith.
This is like the guy who reasons that logic is unreasonable--using reason. And this just shows that he understood neither logic, nor reason.

The sad thing is that in the lives of all these folks, there were ample number of people who could have explained the matter to them. But, if there is one thing I've learned after these 50 or so years, you can't teach anything to the one who already knows everything.
