Weird how ordinary people want to reject that the U.S. achieved herd immunity in early January. I get why govt and media want to deny it. But ordinary people...?

Can science prove herd immunity IS at play in the U.S. at this moment? No.

Can science prove herd immunity is NOT at play in the U.S. at this moment? No.

BUT...what does the available evidence suggest?

Argument that herd immunity has been achieved: New daily infections down 87% in 9 weeks beginning Jan 8th, with only a small percentage of the population vaccinated, and less than 1% vaccinated when the numbers began plunging.

Argument against herd immunity having been achieved: Nothing. Zero.

I'm not exaggerating when I say 'zero." If we leave out discredited nonsense 'explanations', such as "Americans finally started do the right thing", no 'expert' has offered ANY explanation for new daily infections going into free fall. In fact, media's normal "go to" experts, such as Fauci and CDC Director Walensky, won't even respond to questions about "why". On the rare occasion a reporter slips that question in, the 'experts' deflect and move on, never providing a scientific response one would expect from an expert.
