Welcome to the discussion!! This week we will discuss chapter 1. Thoughts? Particularly on persecution of 1st century Christians and their response to that persecution. How might the church today respond? (Feel free to expand and offer other questions and insights)
V Clark
Today, bible iillteracy, the influx of SJ beliefs, CRT and more really has weaken the foundational basis of Christianity to the point, it is more in line with the worldview of MTD than the Christianity of the Bible.
Interesting is Hurtado's discussion of the pagans suspicions of Christianity and the political climate which is liken to today, with a forced tolerance being decreed by the government of the time. Unlike today, the government and pagans were much bolder in their persecution and it was the norm for the cultural climate.
Today's church would not be sustainable if transported back to the 2nd century.
