If you cling to this world, then you are not living a redeemed life. Put aside the part of your flesh that clings to this world.

“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

It amazes me that more Christians do not embrace the eternal promises of our salvation. I should not fear anything in this world because I have a treasure that awaits me that is much greater. If my desire to remain is greater than my desire to depart and be united with my Creator, then what does that say about my belief in the cross and the resurrection?

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1:21‬ ‭ESV‬‬

To the Jew, the gospel preaching a crucified Messiah was a stumbling block to acceptance of the message of the cross. They could not accept a conquering King that was crucified. That was a ridiculous notion to the Jewish person. The cross was a symbol of shame and suffering and besides the Messiah was to come to free them from Roman oppression. To the Gentile, the message of a crucified King as being the Savior of the world was folly and thus hindered their acceptance. A Roman god would never be crucified, so how can we accept a lesser god? In both cases, wisdom, not from God but from the world, was the ultimate barrier that kept both Jews and Gentiles from accepting the gospel. Paul states that the gospel does not require words of eloquent wisdom because that would empty the cross of its power (1 Corinthians 1:17). The gospel must stand on the power of the cross alone. That is where our redemption comes from, the cross and the blood shed on Calvary. The Jewish person could not see that the Messiah did come to free them from oppression, this oppression was due to their sin and redemption through the cross was the answer.

Today, first through modernism and now postmodernism, we rely on wisdom obtained through study. We think we have all the answers and have no need of a God that requires so much of us. I do not have time to read the Bible, pray, and besides, I like living my life this way. Who are you to say that it is a sin? We rely more on the government than we do on God. They will protect us, what can God do? To the secular world, the word of the cross is folly. However, this is the part of this world that is perishing.

“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Cor 1:18, ESV).

“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing” (2 Cor 4:3, ESV).

“and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved” (2 Thess 2:10, ESV).

The Israelites looked towards other governments for protection from the Assyrians. This angered God because they did not look towards Him. They asked for a king to protection when they had a King.
Has the church forsaken God by looking to our government to provide personal safety? To me, it is simple, Yahweh is my protector, my fortress. I do not need our government.

Woke up and immediately put my mask on. Wearing a mask indoors is the latest recommendation so of course I complied because that’s what obedient good citizens do. I drove to Starbucks while wearing my mask and only removed it while drinking my coffee. Called the police on a few people who weren’t wearing masks because they are selfish and don’t want to protect me like I protect them. Don’t they know we are all in this together. They are responsible for my health just like everyone else is. Made sure I only shopped at big box stores like Costco, Target and Walmart....you know the places covid can’t spread and made sure I stayed away from disease spreading places like the gym, my church and all small businesses. I made my rounds at other government deemed essential businesses like McDonald’s and the local liquor store. I made sure not to talk to anyone all day and kept the necessary 6 feet of distance from everyone. When I got home I was spying on everyone through the windows and noticed my neighbors had people over and it looked like it was above government orders for people in a home so I snitched them out to the police. I spent the night watching the mainstream media news so I could be up to date on the latest information on this pandemic. The new normal isn’t that bad as long as we trust the government and do whatever they say.
