So we read through Jeremiah and then Lamentations - and behold!! There comes Ezekiel!! When God calls Ezekiel, he also calls him "son of man" - many, many times no matter which translation you choose! Here's the record of Ezekiel's calling:
Chapter 2, verse 1-3:
"1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand up upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.
2 And the Spirit entered into me, when he had spoken unto me, and set me upon my feet, so that I heard him that spake unto me.
3 And he said unto me, Son of Man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: for they and their fathers have rebelled against me, even unto this very day."
Ezekiel is the OTHER person called "Son of Man". And here Ezekiel is called that to emphasize his HUMANNESS. Just like Jesus uses 'Son of Man' to emphasize His own HUMANNESS. That Jesus was fully God and fully man remains mysterious to us - we cannot understand it. We can only acknowledge it.
Ezekiel was sent to a "rebellious nation" as a warning. Ezekiel 2:5:
"5 But surely they will not hear, neither indeed will they cease: for they are a rebellious house: yet shall they know that there hath been a Prophet among them."
Jesus was sent to a "rebellious nation" as Savior. Matthew 9:6-8:
"6 And that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority in earth to forgive sins (then said he unto the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go to thine house.
7 And he arose, and departed to his own house.
8 So when the multitude saw it, they marveled, and glorified God, which had given such authority to men."
Are you marveling at God's saving power? His healing power? His authority? So did the people of the time!
