Thanos showed what arbitrary power looks like without God's objective standard--he got to decide who would live and die because he had the power--and of course he and his people got to live.
Disgusting.
And the Avengers, even if they don't believe in God's objective standard, still acted like it was true--and that everyone had value and should be saved and fought for--even if it cost them their lives.
I love that picture, which was fairly constant throughout the films.
