Liana A shared a great idea for down the road for double verification involving text confirmation.

She felt it would be more secure than email since people these days can access one's email account easier.

Actually, we already have that option. In your account settings there is a security section and you can enable two factor authentication. I did see that there was an option to choose email/phone/both. I forced phone, but could be persuaded to choose both.

It might helped those who are using gmail and live to register. Most I know primarily use the accounts to register and for some reason the email hits the spam folder

I guess I should have realized this from the beginning, but in order to use the SMS I have to hook up with 3rd party company to deliver them. This rather obvious fact was not displayed in the administration panel by the two factor authentication buttons. This will have to be one more thing on the list to do. In the meantime, I have kept 2 factor enabled, but forced it to email only at this point. If it doesn't behave, I will disable it completely until I can iron out that wrinkle.
