For some reason, when I get notifications I’m not getting notified. I will even refresh the page and it still won’t show any indication by the bell icon. I will get notifications for messages, but not for the bell icon when I do notice someone comments, likes, or whatever. It will work sometimes, but sometimes it doesn’t.

try creating a page, group, or topic in the forum.
GROUPS can be set to private/invite only.
Don't forget to change the privacy settings on your posts
