There have been apparently five completely arbitrary mass extinctions in our planetary history. We are allegedly heading for the sixth one which is the first unnatural one.

This type of thinking utterly devalues human life and makes human initiated genocides much more digestible.

Some would argue they justify them as necessary … even desirable !

After all, mother nature did it for no apparent rhyme or reason; and we humans should therefore learn from mother nature and do it better !

i.e For a noble reason such as

1. Improving human genetic stock e.g Hitler

2. Getting rid of deplorable-domestic terrorists who are in the way of progress e.g all the enlightened progressive socialists like Mao/Lenin/Stalin etc.

The culture has definitely been transformed by these (and I'd add a couple) ideologies. The fixation on the guns alone is testimony to two aspects of this transformation. On the one hand, this fixation reflects the pure stupidity of people. They literally are stupid. They lack the mental acuity to think through their own logic. On the other hand, it reflects a brazen denial of reality. They want their cake and they want to eat it, too. They want all the 'good' that comes from these ideologies and by sheer force of will declare that there cannot possibly be anything 'bad' that comes from them. Thus, on either score, if there is some OTHER reason why there are mass killings beyond the instruments of those killings, they cannot surface it for discussion. Or, they brutally repress those reasons.

Such madness is obviously self-defeating, for if in fact it isn't the gun alone, then removing all of the guns will not result in the end of mass killings, but will ensure that one is more likely to be defenseless in the face of even more threats than mass killings.

It is clear to me that we have a toxic society. It makes people sick. Physically sick, mentally sick, spiritually sick. These ideologies are a big reason why. Part of the sickness is that people prefer the sickness. And, hey, it has a lot to offer: you get money you did not earn, you get to subjugate those you don't like, and you get to have sex and a lot of it, without any of that messy business of having a child as a result.
