In our culture today, there is no longer a commonly held love of truth, rationality and objectivity. As a Washington Post columnist declared in 2016, we now live in a "post-truth" world, in which "truth is dead" and " facts are passe'". In place of objective truth and reason, we now have "consensus reality" and "herd mentality " in which "reality " is what majority opinion says it is. In place of truth and reason, we now have "fake news", in which reality is what biased news sources claim it is.
In place of truth and reason, we now have "alternative facts", in which reality is whatever the political establishment claims it to be. In place of truth and reason, we now have political correctness, in which reality is whatever the radical thought-police tell us to think.
We are approaching the cultural madness depicted by George Orwell in his dystopian novel 1984.
In that frightening tale, truth is whatever the all-powerful Party says it is.
