I used to really hate roundabouts. They have really improved, though. When they first became popular, I was a truck driver. The circles were too small to get around without dragging your tires across the center. The circles themselves were often mounded up or had structures/landscaping in the middle so you couldn't see around them to know if someone was coming around that you had to defer to. (Not as much of a problem in a big truck, but was with 4 wheelers). I found them to be more treacherous than anything. But as per that picture, in the OP, I think they stopped being silly and made some decent ones.

But I still think they can be over-used. There was a series of roundabouts we encountered on a trip where there were three or four of them within a hundred yards or so. By the time we got through them, my wife and kids were sick, and we had to pull over to the side of the road and let them walk around. So that was a bit of silliness.
